The Oxford Dictionary describes a parasite as “an organism which lives in or on another organism and benefits by deriving nutrients at the other’s expense.”
When I was a kid, I thought people were here to take care of animals and to a lesser extent the planet. I still believe that, but I don’t think that we’ve come even close to protecting our planet or the creatures we share it with. Sure, there are environmental and animal conservationists, but compared to the population of the planet, the number of people who actively protect our planet and animals that live here are, it’s no surprise that species are going extinct and our planet is falling apart.
We’re draining the world of resources without any thought to the future. Why? Because our greed has turned us into parasites. Instead of protecting animals, we’re not only eating them but torturing them in the process. When we could be killing these animals humanely, we’re torturing them because it’s cheaper. -Lincoln G.
